YOU'LL LOVE WHAT YOU FIND IN FLORIDA'S HOLLYWOOD!

(2021 - Spring/Summer Issue)

Writer: SUSAN B. BARNES

Stroll along the historic Broadwalk, a promenade that hugs the Atlantic Ocean.  Watch beachgoers play on the sand, splashing in the water and soaking up the Florida sunshine. Now, quench your thirst at a beachside café before continuing on your sun-filled adventure.

This beachside action easily happens daily in Florida’s Hollywood. The classic Florida beach town tucked between Fort Lauderdale and Miami is home to the four-kilometre Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, a popular stretch that boasts over 50 restaurants, 30 boutiques and shops, and more than 30 small inns, hotels and full-service resorts. Dance to live music at the bandshell, paddleboard or snorkel in the sea, and take a ride on a beach bicycle.  There is always something to do!  It is one of the many reasons visitors to the Sunshine State seek out Hollywood, just as they have since the 1920s.

Discover Downtown Hollywood

There is more to Hollywood than its Broadwalk, too. Hop onto the Sun Shuttle by Circuit (an on-demand shuttle service) for a ride to Downtown Hollywood, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This pedestrian-friendly, six-block district is filled with shops, art galleries, and dozens of sidewalk cafés and restaurants — so you’ll want to stay and linger.

There is plenty to discover. Take a self-guided walking tour of the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project that features over 25 murals or maybe try your skills at axe throwing, glass blowing, or watching a movie at Cinema Paradiso, an arthouse cinema.  An Artwalk is held the third Saturday of each month, showcasing art galleries and businesses that feature original artworks. A new mural is painted during each Artwalk, too.

Play Outside

Along with a long ribbon of sandy beach, there are other ways to play in Hollywood. Rent a boat and cruise the waterways, or take a guided kayak or stand-up paddling tour of the mangroves. Tee off at an 18-hole championship golf course, or jump into a game of beach volleyball. Take a walk in the four-hectare ArtsPark at Young Circle and visit the visual arts pavilion and the Art & Culture Center.

However you decide to spend your time in Hollywood, you’ll quickly realize why the beach town has been a popular Florida destination for 100 years.
