THE SURPRISES OF CENTRAL FLORIDA

(2021 - Spring/Summer Issue)

Writer: STEVE WINSTON

“Central Florida” can mean different things to different people. But the Polk County part of Central Florida means one thing for sure—tons of family fun and unique experiences, amidst lush natural beauty.

Polk County offers a winning combination: a world-class theme park, historical and cultural treasures, enjoyable experiences unique to this region, and an array of family-friendly surprises. And it’s all only 45 minutes from Tampa International Airport and the Orlando parks, and an hour from some of the best beaches on earth.

Here, you’ll run out of time long before you run out of exciting things to experience.

LEGOLAND Florida Resort, for example, brings out the inner child in all of us . . . and brings joyful smiles to the faces of your children. With over 50 rides and attractions, the park is a colourful swirl of happy sounds and sensory experiences like LEGO Movie World, a new section that immerses guests into the world seen in the famous LEGO Movie.

The park recently added a third lodging option to the LEGOLAND Hotel and LEGOLAND Beach Retreat properties: Pirate Island Hotel. And, like its sister properties, Pirate Island is filled with technicoloured fantasies and fun.

Central Florida is blessed with 554 lakes and over 645 kilometres of pristine nature trails. You can visit the jungle at Safari Wilderness, named by Fodors.com as one of the “10 Best Safaris in the U.S.” And you can tour that jungle by land (safari vehicle), water (kayak), or atop the back of a camel! Also, the Circle B Bar Reserve was listed among USA Today’s “51 Great Places to See Wildlife” . . . and people from all over the world come here to see it.

Polk County is also rich with one-of-a-kind experiences. For example, Bok Tower Gardens is a unique attraction built by a Dutch emigrant in 1929, with lush landscapes, hiking trails, a boardwalk, and a 63-metre “singing tower,” with chimes weighing up to several tons each. For another exceptional experience, visit the 13 stunning buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright at Florida Southern College.

In early spring, you can have a thrilling experience at the SUN ‘n FUN Aerospace Expo, located at Lakeland Linder International Airport. The aerial acrobatics of the renowned U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will take your breath away, and is a memory the kids will never forget.

Central Florida offers lodgings for every taste and budget. Experience the luxury accommodations, dining and amenities of resorts like the legendary Streamsong Resort & Spa, with three of the top golf courses in North America. Or “go Western” at the authentic Westgate River Ranch Resort, the largest dude ranch east of the Mississippi.

Central Florida also values the health of its visitors. As you’ll see on the website, COVID-19 protocols are carefully observed.
