BOGGY CREEK AIRBOAT ADVENTURES

(2022 - Spring/Summer Issue)

Writer: MADELAINE LAFRAMBOISE

At the headwaters to the Florida Everglades a group of outdoor adventurers are queuing for a thrilling ride into the “real Florida.”

For 28 years, Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures, a locally owned and operated, guided airboat tour company has been taking families, couples and anyone interested in seeking true tucked-away Floridian places on an eye-opening experience through the Everglades headwaters located just south of Orlando.

At the southernmost point of Lake Tohopekaliga, locally known as “Lake Toho,” you can find a crew of knowledgeable and experienced Boggy Creek Airboat Adventures staff leading adventure lovers through the Central Florida Everglades in a new way that seems far away from the nearby amusement parks.

Three reasons why you need to explore this off-the-beaten-path gem:

Wet ’n’ Wild

A fleet of U.S. Coast Guard-approved airboats offers you the chance to get a front- row seat to this Mother Nature show, which cruises past swampy areas into the natural wetlands of Kissimmee. Feel the humid summer breeze as the high-speed custom-made boat skims the water’s surface, oftentimes feeling like you’re floating atop the headwaters.

Back on land, there’s the baby gator exhibit, home to a bunch of wild swamp residents ready for viewing.

Local Wildlife

Around these wetlands, go for the unscripted wildlife views. Surrounded by shallow grass flats and natural bullrush, don’t be surprised by the many animals that call this natural habitat home. Watch bald eagles perch high on treetops. Scan the murky swamp water for other surprises too—it could be Florida’s famous trophy bass, turtles, otters, and then there are those wild gators!

Native American Heritage

Indigenous culture is celebrated as visitors observe Native American traditions at a uniquely recreated Native American village. Watch the Big Mountain Family, who are descendants from the Jororo Tribe, show a forgotten way of life through traditional practices once used by their ancestors living on the Kissimmee River hundreds of years ago. Catch a glimpse of ancient gator-hunting techniques and learn the use of early weapons as you step inside this piece of living history.

Get ready for fun and adventure in the wild wetlands of the headwaters to the famous Florida Everglades!
