Chef, forager and food culturalist Lori McCarthy has developed an exciting menu for the launch of Adventure Canada’s new Taste of Place program, featured aboard Adventure Canada’s Newfoundland Circumnavigation expedition in June 2020. From-the-land dishes feature meat steeped in Newfoundland food culture with new twists: moose pasta, rabbit risotto and deconstructed lamb ravioli. From-the-sea selections include hand-line caught Fogo Island cod, Quidi Vidi beer-steamed mussels, seared seal loin and maple-glazed salmon. Accompanying locally grown vegetables are field-foraged or pickled. McCarthy bakes berries—wild partridge, blueberries and bakeapple berries—into mouth-watering tarts, buckles, cobblers and Nan’s bread pudding. “I want people to go home with a piece of Newfoundland in their heart,” she says. adventurecanada.com

From a waterfront winery to a brewery housed inside a former car dealership, Oakland, California’s eight wineries and 12 breweries each offer a distinct flavour, style and atmosphere. In an effort to encourage visitors to explore this city across the bay from San Francisco, Visit Oakland has launched digital passports for its Urban Wine Trail and Ale Trail. Passport-holders can check into locations, redeem discounts and access business information and maps, all via their mobile phone. Members who collect stamps at each winery and purchase a bottle of wine receive a wine-and-cheese tote, while Ale Trail fans who visit all brewery taprooms receive a free growler (a container used to sell a measured amount of beer). oaklandurbanwinetrail.com

Did you know that 98 per cent of travellers have been shown to make a food or water mistake within the first three days of their vacation? That’s why it’s so important to talk to your healthcare professional about your travel plans well in advance of your departure to understand which vaccines are recommended for the area you’re visiting. And ask if DUKORAL, an oral vaccine, is right for you. Visit dukoralcanada.com for more information.
