ST. AUGUSTINE: READY FOR FUN THIS SPRING

(2018 - Winter/Spring Issue)

Writer: VANESSA CACERES

Don’t miss a minute of the excitement happening this spring in St. Augustine, America’s oldest city.

In March, Searle’s Sack of St. Augustine features a re-enactment of Captain Robert Searle’s 1668 attack on the city. Also in March, get your Irish on at the Celtic Music and Heritage Festival, featuring a St. Patrick’s Day Parade, traditional Irish music and even contemporary Celtic rock. Believe it or not, St. Augustine’s Celtic history dates back to 1565!

Rev up your appetite in April for Rhythm & Ribs, with non-stop music from popular performers and an award-winning barbecue all weekend long. Then, save some room to savour local cuisine during A Taste of St. Augustine, a signature food festival that serves up samples from 20 local restaurants. St. Augustine is known for its diverse culinary offerings, so you’ll want to weigh in on the winner of the prestigious Taste of St. Augustine awards.

If photography and nature are among your passions, Florida’s Birding & Photo Fest, also in April, provides a chance to experience Northeast Florida’s bountiful bird and wildlife while you finesse your photography skills at more than 110 photography workshops, classroom sessions and special events.

The St. Augustine area also boasts world-famous golf attractions. In May, watch the world’s best golfers compete at THE PLAYERS Championship, held at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. A particular favourite among professional players, the tournament is known to attract strong game competitors.

St. Augustine also schedules popular year-round happenings that attract tourists and locals alike. One such event is the First Friday Art Walk, held on the first Friday of each month from 5 to 9 p.m. It includes new exhibits, music, entertainment and refreshments at more than 20 galleries in St. Augustine. And from 5 to 9 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month, Uptown Saturday Night brings live music, refreshments and shopping fun to downtown St. Augustine.
