FANASTIC FAMILY FUN IN THE PALM BEACHES

(2018 - Winter/Spring Issue)

Writer: STEVE WINSTON

The Palm Beaches boasts 75 kilometres of beautiful shoreline, abundant recreational opportunities, a vibrant cultural lifestyle, great shopping and excellent restaurants. Toss into that mix a big dose of family fun.

 THRILLS AND SAFARIS

From March through October, the Rapids Water Park is a long-time Palm Beach County “must” for families. Here, laughter is the second-loudest sound, after such thrill rides as “Big Thunder,” “Raging Rapids” and “Brain Drain.” Figure on spending at least several hours here because your kids won’t want to leave! At Boomers, the kids—and you—can lose yourselves in attractions such as laser games, go-karts, batting cages and a colourful arcade.

A walk on the wild side? Lion Country Safari is a different type of attraction where you can drive through authentic Florida veldts and savannahs resembling African terrain, and the animals—including rhinos—may come right up to your windows! Hand-feed the giraffes or enjoy the rides available at the walk-through safari portion of the park. Also on the “wild” side is Panther Ridge Conservation Center, where injured, rescued or abandoned cougars, leopards, caracals, cheetahs, jaguars and ocelots are nursed back to health. At the Palm Beach Zoo, observe rare animals from around the world as well as from Florida, and experience up-close-and-personal encounters with species you may rarely see again, such as sloths and capybaras.

WORLDS OF WONDER

Palm Beach County museums offer unusual experiences, special kids’ exhibits and just plain fun. For example, the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium features laser shows, a trip into the heavens at the planetarium and an aquarium. Kids will be fascinated by a colourful, nostalgic trip into their parents’ pasts at the Silverball Pinball Museum in Delray Beach as they watch their parents become kids again.

And what’s family fun without treats? At Hoffman’s Chocolate Factory, see the candies being made and take home some of Palm Beach County’s tastiest exports. And Cool Beans, with its indoor playground and café, is a unique experience for all. In the Palm Beaches, even supposedly “adult” attractions like Mounts Botanical Garden often showcase special exhibits for kids.

Family fun in The Palm Beaches? This is just the tip of the iceberg!
